The first thing that happens in the book is the numbering of the people. As a result, many did not enter the Promised Land (Hebrews 3:7-11). Levites were forbidden to touch the sacred articles. “Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God … lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (verses 12-13). When we set aside a special time to spend with God, we will be amazed at how he renews us, from the inside out. God answered his prayers. Someone once said that promises were made to be broken. He mercifully forgives us again and again. When Zimri worshiped a Moabite god, he directly opposed the Lord. We can learn such lessons as showing gratitude instead of grumbling and complaining, accepting God’s appointed leadership and following God’s instructions. Please do not lay this sin on us, in which we have done foolishly and in which we have sinned.” Moses then interceded; and after seven days of banishment outside the camp, Miriam was healed (Numbers 12:9-15). â¦ This is the hope we have to enter our Promised Land—the Kingdom of God—as children of God. As the leader of the Israelites, Moses had the responsibility to set a good example for them. It is God’s desire that we not repeat the mistakes of the Israelites of old, but rather that we respond to and follow His truths outlined in His Word. Each family had a standard—an ensign or signal flag (Numbers 2:2). Although the Lord rebuked both Miriam and Aaron, Miriam alone was struck with leprosy. By refusing to accept God’s judgment, the Israelites would wander 40 years and that generation would die in the wilderness before their children inherited the Promised Land. If we make a commitment, God expects us to keep it.
